Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our stainless steel and copper hotelware, orders, and customisation.
What types of hotelware do you manufacture?
Lotus Metal Works manufactures a comprehensive range of commercial hotelware including stainless steel chafing dishes (rectangular, round, oval, square, handi-shaped), copper chafing dishes, soup tureens, bain-marie sets, copper handis, commercial tandoors, stock pots, cooking pots, serving trays, display stands, and tea service sets. We have been manufacturing handcrafted hotelware in Pakistan since 1951.
What is the difference between stainless steel and copper hotelware?
Stainless steel hotelware (18/10 grade) is the practical default for high-volume commercial operations: it's corrosion-resistant, dishwasher-safe, non-reactive with food, and requires minimal maintenance. Copper hotelware offers superior visual warmth and thermal conductivity but requires hand-washing and regular polishing. Our copper pieces include a stainless steel food-contact lining as standard for food safety. Many of our clients use stainless steel for day-to-day service and copper for premium banquets and events.
What is a chafing dish and how does it work?
A chafing dish is buffet equipment that keeps cooked food at safe serving temperatures (above 60 °C) during service. It uses an indirect water bath: a water pan sits above the heat source and a food pan sits in the water. The water distributes heat gently and evenly, preventing scorching. Heat is typically provided by chafing fuel cans (gel or wick type) or induction burners. Our stainless steel chafing dishes are available with roll-top sliding lids, hinged dome lids, or simple lift-off lids.
What is the difference between a chafing dish and a bain-marie?
Both keep food hot using an indirect water bath, but they serve different roles. A chafing dish is a self-contained, portable buffet unit — water pan, food pan, frame, and heat source (fuel can or induction) all in one — designed to sit on a buffet table where guests serve themselves. A bain-marie is typically a larger, often built-in or counter-mounted hot-holding unit used in the kitchen or service line to keep multiple pans of food warm before plating or transferring to chafing dishes on the buffet. In short: bain-maries hold food hot in the kitchen; chafing dishes present and hold it hot on the buffet floor. We manufacture both stainless steel chafing dishes and bain-marie sets.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimum order quantities depend on the product type and customisation requirements. For standard stainless steel hotelware items (chafing dishes, soup tureens, stock pots), there is no strict minimum for individual pieces — though bulk orders of 10+ units receive trade pricing. For custom manufacturing (bespoke sizes, custom engravings, non-standard finishes), a minimum production run applies. Contact our team to discuss your specific requirements.
Do you export hotelware internationally?
Yes. Lotus Metal Works exports stainless steel and copper hotelware to hospitality buyers internationally. We have supplied hotel chains across Pakistan and have export experience for international shipments. Contact us with your delivery location, quantity, and product specifications and our team will provide a quote including shipping.
Can you engrave or customise products with our hotel logo?
Yes. We offer custom engraving on stainless steel and brass components of our chafing dishes, serving trays, and copper pieces. We can also manufacture non-standard sizes, alternative finishes (brushed vs mirror polish), and bespoke configurations for hotel chains that require a consistent branded look across their service equipment. Reach out with your specifications and we will advise on feasibility and pricing.
How do I maintain stainless steel hotelware?
Stainless steel hotelware is low-maintenance. For daily cleaning: warm soapy water, a soft cloth, rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to prevent water spots. Most pieces are dishwasher-safe — use a stainless-steel-compatible detergent and avoid chlorine-based products, which can cause pitting over time. For stubborn food residue, a stainless steel cleaner applied with a soft cloth restores the surface. Avoid abrasive pads that scratch the mirror finish.
How do I maintain copper hotelware?
Copper requires more care than stainless steel. Hand-wash only with warm water and mild soap — never put copper in a commercial dishwasher. Dry immediately after washing. Polish with a dedicated copper cleaner monthly (more frequently in humid climates) to prevent tarnish and restore the characteristic warm lustre. Our copper pieces have a stainless steel food-contact interior which only needs standard cleaning; the copper exterior polishing is purely for aesthetics.
What makes Lotus Metal Works different from other hotelware suppliers?
Three things: heritage, craft, and range. We have manufactured commercial hotelware in Pakistan since 1951 — over 70 years of metalworking expertise. Unlike trading companies that source from multiple factories, we manufacture everything ourselves, which means quality control at every stage. Our range spans both practical stainless steel hotelware for daily service and artisanal copper pieces for premium presentations, so hotel buyers can source both from one supplier. We supply Pakistan's leading hotel chains including Pearl Continental and Serena Hotels.
Do your products meet food-safety standards?
Yes. All food-contact surfaces in our hotelware use food-grade materials: 18/10 stainless steel (food-safe, non-reactive, corrosion-resistant) for stainless products, and stainless steel interior linings for all copper pieces (so there is no direct copper-food contact). Raw copper is reactive with acidic foods at sufficient concentrations — our copper pieces solve this with the stainless interior while preserving the copper aesthetic externally.
